Home Theater Speaker Wire, Subwoofer Cable, HDMI

Home theater wiring at its most basic requires connecting each of the passive speakers to your home theater receiver using appropriate speaker wires, the powered subwoofer(s) to the receiver using subwoofer cable(s), the television or projector to the receiver using HDMI cable, and any source component(s) to either the receiver or television/projector depending on your specific needs using HDMI cable(s).

Speaker Wiring for Passive Home Theater Speakers

You will need to run individual speaker wires from the back of the surround sound receiver to your desired room locations of each speaker in your home theater system.

A speaker wire stripper, cutter, crimper tool will be useful if you start with a spool of speaker wire.

The lower the gauge, the thicker the speaker wire, but also the more difficult it is to conceal and bend thick speaker wires around corners.

Banana plugs and other similar speaker termination options plugged into binding posts (instead of bare wires) are a great way to achieve a clean, sturdy connection between speaker wire ends and both the receiver and speakers.

To run a single cable to two speaker channels together, you may want to go with 4-conductor instead of 2-conductor where applicable to keep the home theater installation clean, tidy, and uncluttered.

Flat speaker wire with adhesive is a stealth solution because it can be stuck like tape to walls, ceilings, and/or floors and is paintable, or it can be hidden underneath carpet to run to your rear surround speakers.

Self-adhesive cable raceway cord cover kits are another potential stealth solution to hide speaker wiring.
